Liposuction

Liposuction is not a weight loss technique but a procedure that allows for more aesthetic shaping of your body. It may be combined with other surgical techniques such as facelift, abdominoplasty, and thigh lift, procedures to tighten loose skin and supporting structures. It is not a good treatment for cellulite or superficial dimpling of the skin.

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes local fatty deposits through small openings. It can be performed anywhere on the body where fat deposits are located. Common areas include the face and neck, chest, thighs, abdomen, flanks (love handles), arms, buttocks, hips, calves, ankles and knees.

Who is a good candidate?

Individuals of relatively normal weight who have excess fat in particular body areas, with good skin elasticity and muscle tone. You need to be healthy enough to receive anesthesia and have realistic expectations about your outcome.

What is the recovery like?

Following surgery, you will be placed in a surgical compression garment or your surgical areas will be wrapped to help reduce swelling. Pain medicine will be prescribed to help reduce discomfort following surgery. It is normal to experience some swelling and bruising following the operation. We will advise you on how to reduce the bruising and swelling and to accelerate your recovery. Soon you will be able to resume your usual activities and exercise.

What are results like?

If you maintain a stable weight your results will last you indefinitely.  Exercise will help improve your muscle tone and enhance the outcome. If you had skin contour irregularities prior to surgery you will most likely continue to have some irregularities. Hanging skin will not reshape itself to the new contours and may require additional surgical techniques to remove and tighten excess skin. However, size reduction in the area of liposuction will help you fit into clothes better.

Preparing for liposuction

It is vital you prepare yourself physically and mentally for surgery. We are happy to meet with you and your support group to answer any questions you may have. We will also advise on how to prepare for surgery and maximize your recovery.

Knee Contouring

Shapley legs are desirable but fat accumulation on the inner aspect of the knee area is almost impossible to improve without some sort of treatment. These bulges are primarily an issue for woman, but they can also affect men. Knee contouring helps to improve the appearance of the knee area.

The procedure is performed by making small, hidden incisions in the creases behind the knee. A very thin liposculpturing tube is inserted to remove the fat. Radiofrequency treatments work differently, as they melt fat with heat and at the same time tighten the skin. Radiofrequency is a non-surgical procedure while liposculpturing is a surgical procedure. We may recommend one or both as the best method to achieve your goals.
